5TH GRADE THEATRE
Students will learn the basic elements of stage performance through two extensive units: one in
pantomime and the other in character and story creation. Feeling the confidence to stand up and perform
in public is an important component of this course, as the students learn to expand their “comfort zones”.

6TH GRADE THEATRE
Students are introduced to higher levels of stage performance, including movement, character development, and story creation. Feeling the confidence to stand up and perform in public is an important component of this course, as the students learn to expand their individual “comfort zones.”

7-8TH GRADE THEATRE
Students will learn the structure of theatre through writing and performing their own works as well as scenes and monologues from contemporary theatre. With a focus on acting theory, students will explore different texts in preparation for an in-depth performance scene study and audition unit. A strong focus is placed on developing a character through strong movement and vocal choices. Technical theatre elements are explored through a design project. This class may be taken multiple times. As a student progresses through their theatrical journey, individual assignments are given to strengthen their performance skills. Class may be taken multiple times.

7-8TH GRADE THEATRE PRODUCTION
A one trimester, spring course geared towards students who would like a deeper study of theatre production. While focusing on acting theory, students will engage in rehearsing a production, which will culminate in public performances. This is a performance-based class with mandatory participation in the final performances.

7-8TH GRADE MUSICAL THEATRE
Students will learn proper acting, singing, and dancing techniques for musical theatre productions. Students will study a brief history of American Musical Theatre and will learn song and dance routines from Broadway musicals while improving their own performance skills. The class culminates with a public performance of various musical theatre numbers. An emphasis is also placed on helping students with the audition process, as students leave this class with individualized, appropriate audition material and an understanding of audition expectations. This is a performance-based class with mandatory participation in the final performance.

7-8TH GRADE THEATRE ENGINEERING
Do you like building, thinking, designing and making? In this course you will experience theater beyond performance. Through design, collaboration, & original ideas students will create props, lights and all that happens behind the scenes. With real challenges for actual theater productions, students get their hands dirty bringing productions to life without acting on the stage. This course may be taken multiple times.

Acting I: Technique and Scene Study
In this course, students will explore acting as an art form and will be introduced to the different
philosophies of acting. Through exercises, scene study, improv and performing they will learn tools which
will allow them to find their own voice as an actor. The actors will study a work chosen by the class and the
course will culminate in production of one or more of the One Act festival plays. This class may be taken
multiple times with instructor approval.

Acting II: Monologues, Movement and Voice
This is an advanced course in acting. Students will engage in psychological character and monologue
work and research material to broaden their scope of knowledge. They will learn monologues from
different genres and styles culminating in public performance. They will gain command of classical and
contemporary monologues toward the goal of presenting them for collegiate auditions. This class may be
taken multiple times with instructor approval.

Technical Theatre I: Practical Construction
Students in Technical theatre will learn how to use power tools and take a scenic design from the page and turn it into a fully realized set which will be used for one of our Parish productions. They will learn about lighting and sound and the operation of the boards. They may have an opportunity to be part of the actual set design of one of our productions, and can participate in the running crew on the shows being mounted at Parish. This class may be taken multiple times with instructor approval.

Technical Theatre II: Design and Implementation
In this course, students will create a design for one of the Parish productions. They will review the elements of technical theatre and the use of power tools, and augment the Tech Theatre I class as needed. They will take part in the design of one of the productions in the area of lighting, sound or scenic design and create a scale model of their design and technical drawings. The designs from this class will be submitted to the Schmidt and Jones awards. This class may be taken multiple times with instructor approval.
