Coach Wariner attended Lamar High School in Arlington, Texas, participating in multiple sports and being recognized for his outstanding speed. Under the coaching of Mike Nelson, he was the 2002 Texas 5A State Sprint Champion in both 200m and 400m, setting high school bests of 20.41 seconds in the 200m and 45.57 seconds in the 400m, respectively. Coach Wariner attended Baylor University where during his sophomore year he won both the 2004 NCAA Division I indoor and outdoor 400m and 4x400m relay titles. Later that year, he claimed the National 400m title at the USATF Olympic Trials.
Coach Wariner then made his first appearance on the world athletic stage at the 2004 Summer Olympics. He won two Olympic gold medals, the first in the 400m with a personal best of 44.00 seconds and the second as the third leg of the U.S. 4x400m relay team. In the following years Coach Wariner became the 2005 and 2007 World Champion in both the 400m and 4x400m relay. In 2008 he made his second Olympic team where he was the Silver Medalist in the 400m and Gold Medalist in the 4x400m relay. Coach Wariner ran professionally for 13 years before he retired in 2017.
